About eRCF

eRCF is an e-learning site dedicated to the analysis of the fetal heart rate (FHR) during labour. Doctors, midwives, residents and midwifery students can learn or improve their analysis on corrected tracings recorded in the delivery room.

  • Learners build their training sessions by choosing the type of exercise, the topic and the level of difficulty.
  • Teachers organise exams with automatic correction and follow the progress of their students.

eRCF is developed by the Faculty of Medicine, Midwifery and Health Sciences (FMMS) of the Institut Catholique de Lille. The authors declare no conflict of interest.

eRCF trace analysis exercise: CTG viewer and physiological analysis grid

Trace analysis

Each exercise shows a tracing recorded in the delivery room in the CTG viewer. You analyse it with the physiological grid – baseline, variability, accelerations, decelerations, uterine activity, conclusion – then submit to get your score and the correction.

eRCF progressive clinical file: clinical context and tracing

Progressive clinical files

The file starts with the clinical context; the tracing then runs and stops at each questionnaire: grouping of the risk, management, decision. Each step is corrected before the labour goes on.

Contents of the training

  • Student reading a course on a laptop and taking notes

    Courses

Chapters on fetal heart rate physiology and analysis, illustrated with tracings, figures and bibliographic references.

  • Two midwives analysing a CTG trace on paper

    Trace analysis

Tracings recorded in the delivery room, analysed with a standardised grid (baseline, variability, accelerations, decelerations, classification) and corrected.

  • A midwife and an obstetrician reviewing a clinical file on a tablet in the delivery room

    Progressive clinical files

A labour followed step by step: at each stage, assessment of the risk, management and decision.

  • Two students answering a quiz on their phones

    Quizzes

Single, multiple and numeric answer questions with a detailed correction, by topic and level of difficulty.

  • Students taking an exam on laptops

    Mock exams and exams

Mock exams drawn at random and exams organised by schools, with results by exercise type.

  • A teacher working with a group of midwifery students

    Teachers

An organisation space for schools and continuing education: students, groups, exams with automatic correction and progress follow-up.

  • Class where the teacher projects a CTG trace that the students analyse on their tablets

    Interactive class

During a lesson, the teacher projects a tracing and the students answer from their phone.

  • Midwife holding her certificate

    Certification

Course reading and a final exam leading to a certificate issued by the FMMS, which can be checked online.

Schools and continuing education

Teachers have an organisation space on the site.

  • Students and groups; full-access accounts granted with tokens
  • Exams with a time window and a duration, random or manual selection of exercises
  • Results by student and by exercise type, Excel export
  • Interactive class, with the distribution of answers shown on the screen
